Boxed!
I've finally gotten all the books packed up, into no fewer than 28 banker's boxes. Now I just have to get the games....(That won't take as long or as many boxes, I hope!) It's appalling how few books it takes to fill a box, and how heavy the box is after.

Then you can look forward to the nightmare of unpacking them and trying to make them fit into the available space at the far end. Books never fit the same space they were taken out of...

Only 28? Wow. :)

One of the first times I moved, I found a stash of Sun server boxes to use for packing. Even though I thought I was being good by only putting a foot-deep layer of books at the bottom of the boxes and filling up the rest with fluffy things like bedcovers, my friends were not happy with me and teased me mercilessly.

Well, I culled them fairly ruthlessly beforehand. If I hadn't taken a bunch to Half Price Books before, I'd have had about 12 boxes more. That also (pace [info]sturgeonslawyer) leaves me with a fair amount of excess bookshelf space.

I find that small and compact boxes are definitely the way to go with books. On the ohter hand, book boxes are uncomplicated to move - little danger of squashing anything.
